Machine Description
The Edgemate 100 is a
portable, manual, single head c-arm type line polisher for shaping
and polishing convex edges. For example, it can profile
a bullnose, radius roundover, bevel and flat profiled
edges.
The Edgemate 100 is
made of impact resistant plastic, glass filled plastic, aluminum,
stainless steel and brass. There are no ferrous metals except for
the motor, track clamps and some inserts in the knobs. The
Edgemate 100 was
designed so that the machine would work for years in an
abrasive fab-shop environment.
The
Edgemate 100 gives the operator the ability
to control how defined the transition line is between the
face of the stone and the profiled edge. It also has
stops allowing the operator to under polish the stone and to ease the
bottom edge to blend away any chip outs from the saw, without
flipping the stone over.

Different Profiles
Edgemate 100 can polish convex
shaped profiles, some examples
- 1-10 cm bullnose
- 0-180 degree bevel
- 0-5 cm half-bullnose
- a blunt bullnose or bookend
- 0-5 cm Demi-bullnose
- under polish the edge
- ease the bottom edge to remove any chip
outs
Performance
Setup of the Edgemate 100 for the
first edge of a job will take less than 3 minutes. Each additional
edge setup will take less than a minute.
The Edgemate 100 will shape and polish
8-10 feet of 3 cm bullnose in 60 minutes. This includes setup and
under polishing the bottom of the stone, using a turbo cup wheel
and eight polishing pads.
The Edgemate
100 will shape and polish 8-10 feet of 1/2" bevel
in 40 minutes. This includes setup and easing the sharp
edges.
The
Edgemate 100 will shape and polish 8-10
feet of 1/8" eased edge in 50 minutes. This includes
setup, easing the bottom edge and under polishing the stone. The
edge is polished so flat that there is very little light
distortion in the reflection.
Power
Requirements
The Edgemate 100 uses
120 volts at 12 amps. The machine is GFCI protected with a
magnetic switch to prevent motor start up when the current is
restored.
Operator
Skills
There is some training to
understand the machine, but very little skill in
running the machine. Most operators obtain a great edge
within the second or third try. Because the machine
moves down the track with very little effort, it is far less
physical work than polishing by hand. The operator can run the
machine with one hand. The spindle pressure is preloaded to
25 lbs and can be easily increased to 50+ lbs. The splash
shield around the abrasive controls the air borne dust and
protects the operator from stone debris and water. The operator
should be able to stay mostly dry, except for their
boots.
Another advantage of this machine
is that it is easier to move the Edgemate 100 to
a large stone than it is to load a large stone into a stationary
machine. Operators can work alone and polish edges that
are going to be seamed together. With a the Edgemate
100, you will get machine quality edges using standard
polishing pads. |
